How Our Qurbani Slaughter Process Works: Step by Step

Transparency is one of our core commitments at Qurbani for Unity. You are trusting us with your Ibadah. You deserve to know exactly how we perform it. This article walks you through the complete slaughter process that our team follows on the days of Eid al-Adha in Pakistan.

We will not gloss over anything. This is how it works.

Before Eid al-Adha: Preparation

In the weeks before Eid al-Adha, our team downloads the full order list from our WooCommerce system and cross-references every order with our farm stock. Each animal is assigned to a specific order. For orders that include Named Distribution Bags, the labels are printed and prepared. Certificates are prepared in template form, ready to be completed with the correct dates after the slaughter.

On the eve of Eid al-Adha, our team confirms the slaughter schedule. The order of slaughter is planned. Water and feed are available to the animals until the night before, in accordance with animal welfare guidance. The slaughter area is cleaned and prepared.

On Eid al-Adha Morning: After the Eid Prayer

Our team attends the Eid prayer before any slaughter begins. This is a Shariah requirement. The Qurbani window opens after the Eid prayer on the morning of the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. No slaughter takes place before this moment, regardless of operational pressure.

After the prayer, slaughter operations begin.

The Slaughter: How Each Animal Is Treated

  1. The animal is brought to the slaughter area calmly and without distress. It is not shown the knife or the slaughter process of other animals.
  2. The animal is positioned facing Makkah, as is the Sunnah.
  3. The slaughterer confirms the niyyah: the name of the person for whom this Qurbani is being performed is stated.
  4. The slaughterer says clearly: Bismillahi Allahu Akbar. This invocation is said for each individual animal. It is not said once for a batch.
  5. The slaughter is performed swiftly with a sharp blade, in a single decisive motion, cutting the windpipe, oesophagus, and the two jugular veins. This is the method prescribed in Islamic law.
  6. The animal is allowed to bleed fully before any further processing.

For customers who have ordered video proof, a team member records this process for each specific animal. The video is linked to the order number and sent to the customer’s email within 48 hours.

After Slaughter: Processing and Distribution

After slaughter and bleeding, the animal is skinned and cleaned, and the meat is divided. For cow and camel orders, the seven shares are separated and weighed to ensure fairness.

Meat is packed into the appropriate bags. Named Distribution Bags are loaded with the correct customer’s portion. The distribution team then delivers to families on our list.

Within 24 hours of slaughter being completed, our team updates the order status in the system, and the certificate generation process begins. Certificates are emailed to customers within 24 hours of their order being marked complete.

The Shariah Framework We Follow

Our slaughter process follows the guidelines of the Hanafi madhab, which is the most detailed in its specifications for Qurbani slaughter. The conditions we adhere to are:

  • Slaughterer is a Muslim adult
  • Bismillah Allahu Akbar is said immediately before the cut
  • The cut severs the windpipe, oesophagus, and both jugular veins
  • The animal faces the qiblah (direction of Makkah)
  • The animal is not stressed before slaughter and does not witness other slaughters
  • Slaughter takes place within the valid Qurbani window: after Eid prayer on the 10th to sunset of the 12th Dhul Hijjah

These guidelines are valid and sufficient for Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali Muslims as well. Our process fulfills the requirements of all four major madhabs. [LINK: /is-online-qurbani-valid-islam]

Frequently Asked Questions: Our Slaughter Process

Is Bismillah said individually for each animal or in a general group statement? Bismillah Allahu Akbar is said individually for each animal immediately before the slaughter. We do not use a general invocation for a group of animals. Each sacrifice is a distinct act of worship performed in the name of a specific person. The individual invocation is a requirement we take seriously.
What time does the slaughter happen? Slaughter begins after the Eid prayer on the morning of the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and continues through the day. Large orders may carry into the 11th. We aim to complete all Economy and Standard orders on the 10th. Premium orders are performed first.
Can I watch my Qurbani being performed? Not in real time, but you can add video proof to your order at checkout for $20. A private video of your specific animal’s slaughter is recorded and sent to you via a secure link within 48 hours of Eid al-Adha.
What if there is an issue with my animal on the day? In the unlikely event that an animal designated for your order is found to be unfit for slaughter on the day, our farm stock allows us to substitute with another animal of the same or better quality from our reserve. We will notify you of any such change and the certificate will reflect the actual animal used.
