Chatra is the standard Pakistani sheep — leaner, widely available, and the traditional Qurbani choice for British Pakistani, South Asian, and Bangladeshi diaspora communities. Dumba is the fat-tailed sheep — distinguished by its large fatty tail (Dum) and prized across Arab, Gulf, Afghani, Somali, and Central Asian communities. What is the Dumba fat tail and why is it included?

The Dumba fat tail, called Dum in Urdu and Punjabi, is the distinctive large fatty tail unique to fat-tailed sheep breeds. It is rendered for cooking and packed separately in cubes as a premium ninth cut in the Qurbani distribution box. This tail fat is a culinary tradition in Arab, Gulf, Afghani, and Central Asian cuisine, where it is considered a delicacy. The Dum is included only when you select the Dumba breed — it is the exclusive feature that distinguishes the Dumba from every other Qurbani animal we offer.

What does Do Dant mean for a sheep?

Do Dant means Two Teeth in Urdu and Punjabi. It refers to a sheep that has at least two permanent incisors visible in its lower jaw, indicating the animal has reached the Shariah-valid minimum age of one year across all four madhabs. At Qurbani for Unity, every sheep is Do Dant certified by our farm team before Eid day assignment. The Hanafi school also permits a plump, well-developed sheep of six months — the jadha ruling — if it appears as large as a one-year-old. Our Standard and Premium tiers at 40kg and 50kg comfortably exceed both the standard and the jadha threshold.

Why did the Prophet choose a ram for Qurbani?

Of all animals valid for Qurbani, the sheep and ram holds the most intimate connection to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He did not simply permit sheep Qurbani — he performed it personally for himself and his household on multiple occasions, slaughtering them with his own hand. The Prophet specifically chose horned rams with white markings, as confirmed in both Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim through the narration of Anas ibn Malik (RA). Choosing a sheep or ram for your Qurbani is therefore the most direct Sunnah-following choice of animal.

What cuts does a whole sheep Qurbani produce?

A whole sheep Qurbani produces eight standard cuts: Kaleji (liver, kidney, and lungs), Paaye (4 trotters), Raan (whole leg), Dasti (shoulder), Champ (chops), Puth (backchop), Seena and Gardan (chest and neck), and Mixed Artisan Cuts (remaining portions separately packaged). For Dumba sheep, an exclusive ninth cut is added — the Dum (fat tail) packed in cubes — a traditional delicacy not available with any other Qurbani animal. All cuts are temperature controlled and separately labelled.

Which Eid day will my sheep Qurbani be performed?

Premium Gold tier orders receive automatic Eid Day 1 priority — slaughter after the Eid prayer on 27 May 2026, the most Sunnah-aligned time. Economy and Standard tiers are allocated Day 1 subject to capacity, or Day 2 (28 May). You can indicate your preferred day during the ordering process. All Qurbanis are completed within the valid three-day window of Eid al-Adha.
